The Altair Enlighten Award acknowledges the greatest successes in vehicle weight reduction each year. On 5th August 2019, our project manager, Stefan Herrmann, received the award, together with Stephane de Rycke (Managing Director of Alba tooling & engineering) at the CAR Management Briefing Seminars in Traverse City (Michigan / USA).
Just eight weeks after the award of the #ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT SEAT, the roughly 10 kg light prototype ensured a renewed future with the German Innovation Award 2019 - the Altair Enlighten Award premieres highly innovative ideas, processes, materials and technology in lightweight construction.
The radical and innovative lightweight construction strategy of the project instigators csi, AMC and Alba tooling & engineering, is based on a continuous digital process chain which makes it possible to realise the #ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT SEAT in a single construction stage. The project is implemented via corresponding agile project, process and supply chain management, from the design to the hardware product, in fewer than seven months.
The highly innovative xFK in 3D winding process, which uses resin impregnated continuous filaments for a strong, tension-optimised and zero-waste construction method, is largely responsible for the weight reduction. This xFK in 3D process effects a paradigm switch in ultra-lightweight construction, which was optimally used for the digital planning and design of the seat structure - this means a “step change“.
In addition to the instigators, who were also awarded for their business courage and innovative skills, 3D|HARDCORE, Robert Hofmann GmbH, covestro, LBK and climatex were also involved in the development of the seat. The target market for the multi-material #ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT SEAT includes hyper cars, sports cars and future aviation applications. The #ULTRA-LIGHTWEIGHT SEAT thus opens up completely new technological, ecological, economical and social potential in the integrated automotive lightweight construction of the future - promising lightweight construction in pure culture.
