csi supports sustainability project
Vineyards have shaped the cultural landscape around Heilbronn and Neckarsulm for generations. At the same time, many sites are facing new challenges: small plot sizes, steep slopes, and changing climatic conditions make long-term economic cultivation increasingly difficult in many areas.
The Herzstückle project in Heilbronn is investigating how former vineyard sites can be ecologically enhanced and adapted to changing climate conditions. As part of its 30th anniversary, csi entwicklungstechnik is supporting this initiative, helping to promote a project that brings together sustainability, biodiversity, and a strong connection to the region.
The project is led by the association Wandernde Bildungsbäume Heilbronn and the winery Schäfer-Heinrich. Covering approximately 3,800 square meters in eastern Heilbronn, the site serves as a testing ground for innovative approaches to ecological enhancement and the future-oriented use of former vineyard land.
A Diverse Orchard Vineyard
At the heart of the project is the development of a species-rich orchard vineyard that combines ecological diversity with a sustainable approach to land use. The site includes apricots, figs, persimmons, kiwis, almonds, peaches, and pawpaws, complemented by herbs, grasses, and shrubs that create a variety of habitats.
The goal is to establish a resilient ecosystem that provides habitats for numerous plant and animal species while strengthening the site's ability to adapt to future environmental and climatic conditions. The wide range of plant species offers diverse food sources and shelter for insects, birds, and other wildlife. At the same time, it creates structures that support biodiversity and enhance the long-term resilience of the area.
Another key element of the concept is a vineyard wall built from reclaimed sandstone blocks. It provides valuable habitats for lizards and other small animals and further enhances the project's nature-based design.
A Project with Strong Regional Roots
Support for the project was generated as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations. To mark the occasion, our customers took part in a quiz journey through the history of csi entwicklungstechnik. For every correctly answered question, we donated a contribution to the Herzstückle project.
The high level of participation demonstrated the strong interest in regional and sustainable initiatives. We are therefore particularly pleased that, together with our customers, we can contribute to the development of our region.
During an after-work event, colleagues from csi entwicklungstechnik had the opportunity to see the project's progress firsthand. Despite a hot and dry summer, the first positive developments were already visible on the site.
Herzstückle brings together the preservation of the regional cultural landscape with innovative approaches to biodiversity and climate adaptation. It is becoming a place where sustainable land use and ecological diversity can be explored and developed hand in hand.
The transformation from a traditional vineyard into a multifunctional landscape demonstrates how courage and openness to new perspectives can lead to sustainable solutions for the future. This shared mindset is what connects the project and csi: not only preserving what already exists, but reimagining its potential and shaping the future from it.
