The expectations put on the designers of body work can be very diverse and of broad responsibilities. One can be the realization of the reduction of weight, another one the increase of the installation space variance whilst reducing manufacturing costs at the same time. The use of new materials may help, but can also bear new challenges. New materials such as high-strength steels, aluminium, magnesium and plastics form an important base. This is to be implemented effectively in hybrid or multi-material designs. This can be a different challenge considering the fact that these materials are to be produced, processed and finally combined with one another in very different ways.
