Professional apprenticeship

We would like to give you an insight into our apprenticeship opportunities. Each year csi offers the opportunity to about 10-15 school graduates to complete a professional apprenticeship as a technical product designer at one of our locations in Neckarsulm, Ingolstadt, Winterberg or Weissach.

Contents and processes of the apprenticeship

As a technical product designer you are responsible for the creative and technical realization of design specifications of automotive manufacturers. You will work with CAD programs in front of a PC screen where you also learn the digital 3D construction of components.

The duration of this program is 3.5 years and depending on good performance it can be shortened for half a year. The professional apprenticeship is a classical dual system which is composed of practical phases in the organization and theoretical phases at a vocational school. We educate and train our apprentices after the needs at csi in order to be able to employ all of them afterwards. Our professional apprenticeship program applies if you are..

…creative

…like working with numbers

…have a good spatial imagination

…have a broad technical understanding

…like working mostly with a PC

Trainings and projects

Our apprentices get the chance to participate in numerous trainings in order to build and expand their knowledge about the interior, exterior and body work development further. Besides that we organize excursions to visit for example the headquarters of Audi in Ingolstadt or other suppliers.

Moreover our apprentices work on their own projects to get to know the processes of project and team managmenemt as well as collecting more expertise and knowledge.

One example is the csi-Pedelec. This E-bike was developed and prototyped by the apprentices in Neckarsulm. On the basis of this project's complexity,  3 generations of apprenticeship years were treating this topic until its completion.

Position: Designer (Apprentice until 2016)

Location: Neckarsulm

How did you get your apprenticeship?

My sister did the same apprenticeship which has made me curious and increased my interest in this job. Through my dad I have heard about csi entwicklungstechnik and the opportunities they offer. After my 1-year internship at csi Wolfsburg I started my apprenticeship at csi Neckarsulm.

What were your expectations towards an apprenticeship and did they get fulfilled?

I expected to get a deeper insight into the automotive industry and to get more experience in handling co-workers and customers. These expectations got all fulfilled because also for csi it is very important to pay attention to every employee's wishes.

Which tasks did you like best during your apprenticeship? Were there things that you did not like doing so much?

I was very interested in rotating through different departments and teams because I got insight into each area of a vehicle. Also my internship at Läpple was interesting because I could bring in and broaden my manual skills.

How were you treated as an apprentice? Did you feel sufficiently supervised?

I felt extremely well as an apprentice. I could always contact my co-workers whenever I had questions or problems. Also in other teams I got a lot of help and assistance.

Do you have any advice for other students that are interested in an apprenticeship?

Be yourself! If you are interested in cars you have already won!

How did you get your apprenticeship?

csi caught my attention through an advertisement. Then I checked the website and sent my application. After my interview and a short internship I received an offer for the apprenticeship position.

What were your expectations towards an apprenticeship and did they get fulfilled?

I expected to be able to contribute and make significant impact in the development of vehicles after my apprenticeship. I was taught how to apply necessary tools and was able to use them. All my expectations and wishes got fulfilled and I was enjoying the time of my apprenticeship a lot.

Which tasks did you like best during your apprenticeship? Were there things that you did not like doing so much?

I liked best the autonomous problem-solving process. Especially in technical aresa at which we are operating there are many things ocurring daily, which you get to know and for which one will have to find the best solution possible.

How were you treated as an apprentice? Did you feel sufficiently supervised?

My parents told me this one saying: "Life's not easy at the bottom." But this did not apply at csi at all. I was welcomed in a very friendly way and especially the appropriate handling and great treatment amongst co-workers is part of the csi culture.

Do you have any advice for other students that are interested in an apprenticeship?

There possibility of doing first an internship at csi enables you to get an impression of the company, see if you like it there and to get convinced about the work atmosphere in the office.

Make use out of that!
